ABOUT US
Owned and operated by Dorothy Wynne, an experienced Horsewomen in the area. Dorothy started her horse education at the age of 12 years on Long Island, New York, working for full service show barns before starting her career in the New York Thoroughbred Racing Industry.
She was one of the first women to breed Kentucky Stallions which were brought to New York to improve the breed in that State. She graduated to working the young horses and then moved on to grooming on the New York racetrack circuit. She has held licenses in three states, including New York, Kentucky and Louisiana.
After relocating to Texas, Dorothy continued her career working for several local trainers and continuing her education by participating in John Lyons, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, Brent Graef, and Joe Wolter Clinics. In May 2004, she relocated to Manvel and opened Sundance Ranch, a 150 acre boarding, training, breeding and lesson facility. She has developed Her skills by learning from not only great horseman but the Horse it self.
Her specialty is horsemanship; teaching the amateur owner to ride their horse, helping potential horse buyers make good purchasing decisions and producing local events. Trail riding is her personal favorite, however, she stresses that the trail rider should have experience before taking on open country. Her students have participated and won in several local parades, playdays, competitive trail rides and obstacle course events. Dorothy's experience, horse expertise and love for horses of all breeds and abilities has given her the desire to educate the student with a basic solid foundation of riding technique and care in order to become a good all-around horse person.
She has a wide variety of horses from Registered Arabs, Quarter Horses, Paints, Half Arabs, and the ever popular rescue horse. Some of her best horses have been the Rescue horse. Patista on our sale page is currently competeing in ACTHA, ACHA, EXCA, while being the "go to" horse here at the ranch for cow work fence repair catching the strays or a lesson when needed. There is also Junior who was rescued By Blue Bonnet Equine Rescue Organization, and adopted by the ranch as our next lesson horse. While he was used in EXCA as the horse that no one could lead he has become the great equine partner leading and being led by others and working cows giving lessons while working the circuit!
Her Hope is that she can educate the owner to care and handle the horse properly so as to decrease the number of rescue horses and increase the number of well educated and happy horse people!
